Nothing Ever Changes This Spider-Man 2099 tale begins with a couple visiting their son in the hospital, we learn that he has
diabetes which was inherited from his mother. The family's visit turns to tragedy however when they witness some madman murder their son in the hospital ward, apparantly
because he was genetically defective. The villian, we come to know as Mutagen, whose own genetic imperfections were once passed on to his now deceased daughter,
causing him to strive to purify his own genetic state. His search to find and correct his own imperfections has driven him to experiment on himself causing his
body to evolve during each fight in order to survive and now he feels it is his duty to cleanse the gene pool. Meanwhile, Miguel (Spider-Man) meets with a friend to
visit her sister who's in the hospital for a rare genetic deformity. Of course this very night Mutagen plans another cleansing at the hospital, will Spider-Man be
able to stop this ever evolving foe? Hulk 2099 As the story begins the Hulk has just finished crossing 300 miles of the Mojave desert. He is met on the
edge of civilization by a security team, once they're destroyed the Hulk decides that in order to continue his hunt undaunted he must turn himself into that other
one, that puny pink human, John Eisenhart. John's most recent exploits in the desert, trying to get the "Knight's of Banner" to sign over the movie rights to
their way of life leads to an ultimate betrayal when they refuse. John alerts authorities that the Knights are conducting Gamma Ray experiments and security forces are quickly
detatched. Watching from a distance, John is quickly absorbed into the fraye as the Knights are unwilling to surrender and the security forces are more than
willing to annihilate them. Gawain, the young boy John uses and betrays for information about the Knights, in an attempt to stop the carnage triggers the
Gamma ray machine, while John fails in his attempts to stop him. |

Thirty Mile Mall A singer named Quirk was to be the target of the "Sweet Dreams" the name for the unquestionnable security
force, for her controversial lyrics about the subliminal messages which they had implanted in other songs. The Hulk had saved her and she has been living in John's
apartment since. Today was going to be the day when John helped her relocate, but finding information about Gawain's location has trumped the planned move and
now John and Quirk find themselves at the thirty mile mall. John and Quirk begin their search at the higher class shops which still operate in the mall, by passing
themselves off as a spokesmodel and agent. Quite quickly they find Gawain as he declares John a murderer for betraying his people, and then the fight starts moving
down the long halls of the sporadically populated mall. By the end of it, Quirk and the Hulk find a trapdoor which leads to the heart of why Gawain has been kept alive,
so that Sweet Dreams can learn of the Knights of Banner's Gamma ray experiments. Using an explosion to cover their escape, Gawain is once again whisked out of
reach of the Hulk. Remote Control Scientists at Macroware have developed a sort of mind control which can be be delivered via sight. In order to test
this new technology, Damian Fawcett one of the developing scientists, sends a message via videophone telling one of his old rivals, Jack Mitchell quite simply to
"kill yourself". Without delay, the order is carried out. Elana, the other scientist involved in developing this technology, quickly realises that her own life is in jeopardy
by the psychotic reaction of her partner and sends a video message to Miguel O'Hara telling him to "kill Dr. Damian Fawcett". Her suspicions are correct as Damian
shortly bludgeons her to death with a statue of the Empire State Building. Miguell who unbeknownst to Elana is actually Spider-Man 2099 reacts to this message and
promptly seeks out Dr. Fawcett. Simultaneously agents from Alchemax are dispatched to retrieve the scientist as well as the technology. By electrocuting himself
Miguel is able to clear the uncontrollable drive to murder Dr. Fawcett from his head, but now he must deal with the fumbling of the security force. |
