Spider-Man 2099 |
 |
My thoughts on this series as a whole have not entirely been formed yet,
at least not so far as I would feel comfortable making them public. But anyway, I highly doubt
that you came here to read what it is that I may or may not have thought.

A band of Thorites tries to help Spider-Man, but he kills one named Balder, and Miguel has seen enough. Miguel is still concerned about leading Venture away from his apartment, so he retraces his steps through his apartment and out his own window again. Meanwhile, Gabriel learns of what his brother has become from Lyla. Believing he has captured his prey, Venture grabs Spider-Man's arm to examine his talons, but the pressure by his grip causes web fluid to shoot out and blind the cyborg--Spider-Man's itchy forearms were the beginnings of his spinnerets. On the ground, Spider-Man disarms Venture, and the two struggle hand-to-hand. Venture's gun, being magnetized returns to Venture's metallic body with a bang. The distraction allows Spider-Man to rip open some circuitry on the cyborg with his talons and shorted his systems. Thus Miguel finishes his origin story for Lyla as Tyler Stone comes knocking on his door . |

| Writer | Penciller | Inks | | Peter David | Rick Leonardi | Al Williamson | The Specialist An intimate scene between Gabriel and his girlfriend Kasey Nash is interrupted by the Specialist (a Zaibatsu Samurai, learned in #21), who has come to take Kasey back to Alchemax. Back at Babylon Towers, Tyler Stone has come to ask Miguel back to work, giving him free Rapture (which Miguel's transformation has cured him of), and to tell him he thinks Aaron Delgato is Spider-Man. Miguel learns he can retract his talons by mental will. He decides to stay as Spider-Man for a while because of how nervous he has made his boss. Gabriel tells his brother what happened to Kasey and convinces him that he, as an employee of a national megacorp, has the power and responsibility to change the system. Miguel finds Kasey at Alchemax, as she escapes from her captors. Seeing the Specialist after her, Miguel makes a quick change to take on this new menace. However, Miguel's inexperience allows the Specialist to gain the upper hand. |

| Writer | Penciller | Inks | | Peter David | Rick Leonardi | Al Williamson | Downtown Spider-Man survived his fall into Downtown, helping a Miss Quan from two scummy "protection service" Watchdogs. As Spider-Man tries to figure out where he is and how badly he's injured, Tyler Stone and his right- (and two-left-) hand man, Winston, fire Sgt. Estevez from the Public Eye with prejudice for disobeying orders to not attack Spider-Man. Sgt. Estevez is the father of the Estevez of the previous issues. The Alchemax CEO, who is "very familiar with [Spidey's] predecessor", expresses his disappointment with Stone in not maneuvering Spider-Man into an honor vendetta with their rivals, Stark-Fujikawa. Stone sends the Public Eye to find Spider-Man, as Kasey Nash and Gabriel separately begin hunts of their own. Spider-Man manages to get to Dr. Morrow at "Docs in a Box", who also happened to be a Thorite, who saves his "harbinger". As both the Public Eye and the Watchdogs converge on the S-Man, the Vulture appears and whisks Spidey away after he slices everyone else to shreds. |

| Writer | Penciller | Inks | | Peter David | Kelley Jones | Mark McKenna | Home Again Home Again At the Wellvale Home, Conchata O'Hara has an episode. Gabriel's jealousy builds as Kasey and Raff (the Wolverine-like Throwback) discuss how much they admire Spider-Man. Angela Daskalakis brings Estevez back to Nightshade. She claims they have "made some major breakthroughs in cross-dimensional quantum theories", possibly cracking the light barrier and recapturing old tech from the Heroic Age. Because of this they expect a possible hostile takeover bid by Alchemax. Spider-Man makes his way back Uptown to be met by a Public Eye Flyboy named Puglisi. Spidey takes care of the cop, and changes into his uniform so he can get home without notice. Unfortunately, he is met by other Flyboys who are ready to go after Spider-Man who has been sighted at the mall. They find dozens of Spider-Men -- the Spiderite movement has begun. Miguel returns home, tells Dana he's beaten the effects of the Rapture, and learns that his mother collapsed and wanted to see her sons. |

| Writer | Penciller | Inks | | Peter David | Rick Leonardi | Al Williamson | Ye Gods Dana returns to Miguel's apartment to find Lyla shoving crullers down Gabriel's throat. She believes Miguel to be dead (after how Thor threw him away). After Spider-Man, the Punisher, Ravage, and Doom stopped the Aesir, they agreed to leave Valhalla before it destroyed itself. As Miguel and Jake left, Doom took control of the floating city (which he renamed Libera Cielo). Doom warns them to stay away, and Spidey and the Punisher part less then amiably. Spider-Man returns Downtown to realize the religious vacuum created by the rise and fall of "Thor". He found a group gathered listening to Bloodsword, who had found Mjolnir when it fell on the head of his former lieutenant, Hogun. Worse, his mother Conchata was there listening to him. Miguel decides to take his mother away. Conchata resists, and the newly named Bloodhammer hauls Miguel on stage. Miguel preys upon the Thorism in the crowd to distract everyone while he frees himself from Bloodhammer's bondage. Arguments of faith ensue in the crowd, and Miguel and Conchata leave. Rev. McAdam, formerly Thor, recovers Mjolnir, and sullenly walks off. |

| Writer | Penciller | Inks | | Peter David | Rick Leonardi | Al Williamson | Meltdown Miguel takes Dana to safety, away from the "emotionally unstable" Lyla. Spider-Man thinks the entire city's computer net has crashed, as the city's systems go haywire. Meanwhile, Conchata finds Gabriel plugged in again, but she is shocked when she tries to remove his headset. Alchemax believes Discord has disrupted the city's computers, and they are scared. Back on the streets, Spider-Man does his best to stop minor catastrophes and ends up saving the life of Hikaru-sama of Stark-Fujikawa, who is left to ponder the dictates of honor: vengeance for killing the Specialist versus indebtedness for saving his life. |
